Our youngest retailer: Allie, aged 9

Allie: "This is one of the carrots I grew. It grew around a rock - nature is pretty amazing!"

When Allie contacted us to order lunch bags for resale, we were intrigued ... She's 9 years old.

Allie has been farming with her mum for as long as she can remember and, until recently, they donated all of their fresh produce to the local food bank. Last year they started selling their heirloom vegetables at the Haliburton Farmer's Market. This year, Allie spearheaded adding our reusable lunch bags to their assortment.

When Allie is not helping her mum out on the farm, she is tackling waste reduction at school. Struggling with kids bringing single-use water bottles with their lunches, she applied for a grant from the Green Apple School Program and bought reusable water bottles for all the kids in her school!

We're inspired. If you are in the area, you can find All Farmed Up's heirloom veges, and Allie selling an assortment of Fluf lunch bags, at the Haliburton Farmer's Market in Carnarvon, Ontario.

Here are a few things that Allie shared with us about what motivates her and what she wants to do when she grows up:

When did you start growing vegetables with your mum?
I started growing vegetables with my mum when I was 2 years old:)  Mainly I weeded--only problem sometimes the plants:))  Everything we grew went to help bring fresh food to families in need. We donated everything to our local food warehouse.

What is your favourite thing to grow?
carrots--they taste amazing when you pick them right out of the ground and eat them.

What has motivated you to get involved with waste reduction?
My mum started the recycling program at her school when she was young--before that her school did not recycle at all. I joined the eco club at my school and I noticed that many kids come to school with single use water bottles...I wanted to give all the kids a reusable water bottle so I applied for a grant from the green apple fund and I bought water bottles for all the kids at my school.  I did a study and realized that if all the kids at my school, we have a small school only 160 students, use their water bottle each day that would eliminate 30400 bottles from the landfills. Every kid matters! Also, even if we recycle the bottles--only so many make it to reuse...so it is more important  for us to reduce.  This is why I really like the idea of the bags:))  They are the perfect size for reusable containers.

Any idea what you want to do when you grow up?
I want to help animals, farm, and be a hockey player.

Anything else you want to add? Your company is amazing--I love that you came up with the idea of making reusable bags and snack packs and the graphics are really cool:)

Thanks Allie! We think what you are doing is even cooler.
